I have been performing for as long as I can remember. From dressing up as a kid and performing a song for friends and family to participating in the julemandscongress since i was a baby.
I also went with my parents to a lot of their shows as a kid. Not performing yet since in Holland you can only perform from when you are 16 years old, before that only a few hours a year.
When i was 17 years old i joined my parents shows, before this the place where i performed was the Santa congress on BAKKEN. In those days the congress was a lot bigger and we had to do interviews for television and radio everyday and perform on stage.
Also during my childhood me and my brother played a small part in a Danish movie called :" Pjerrots Ring". This movie was recorded at Bakken. It was an amazing experience for us!
We got this part through Ib who was Pjerrot at the time. Ib (like my parents) has always believed in Bobby and me as artists and we learned a lot from him.
I have known Ib all my life and call him Onkel Ib, because he is family to me.
It was Ib with the julemandscongress that gave me and Bobby the opportunity in those days to get familiar with interviews, camera's and performing for huge numbers of audiences. In those days there were thousands and thousands of people at Friluftscenen and camera's everywhere. And besides this the julemandscongress many times did tv recordings so we got to see several tv studio's and learn a lot.
And Ib let me sing on stage in front of an audience for the first time in my life. I remember i sang a sinterklaas song together with my mom and after this i sang Boys from The Beatles solo.
As young kids me and my brother also went to tv recording in Holland with my parents for the artists and bands they had, this is also where we got to learn a lot.
At the age of 17 i started performing in our shows and touring. We gradually built up the amount of what we did in the shows each year. Untill a few years ago i asked my father permission to make my first blacklight act. A blacklight act was something i had been talking about with Ib a lot and was something i really wanted to do.
It turned out to be a succes and from than on we had a blacklight act in the show each year. And each year i started making new acts, but also finding the right music, the choreographies, making the requisites and finding/making the right costumes.
Bobby and me have been around entertainment al our lives. And an other big inspiration has always been the pantomime theatre in Tivoli.
Bobby and me were hypnotized by the beautifull stories about Harlekin and Columbine, the costumes, decoraions, dances, music and off course the beautifull theatre.
So as kids we started to take ballet classes. And at school in Holland we performed pantomimes with fellow students and we would teach them all the steps and hand movements since we knew all the pantomimes by heart (and still do haha).
From watching so many pantomimes night after night we learned a lot about facial expressions, movements etc.
We just loved one of the Harlekins: Tommy Edvardsen. And he still is one of our best friends.
By looking at him on stage and talking with him off stage we learned and still learn everytime.
I think that as an artist you always need to improve yourself, you can never think that you know everything. You can always learn and get better. By watching others perform, talk with other performers and pratise what you do, and practise A LOT!
